YouTube Concert of the Week: Coldplay in Tokyo

I know, I know: Coldplay, as Thom Yorke said, is lifestyle music.  They aren’t cool to write about and definitely are one of the bands that no Strokes fan should (willingly) admit to liking, though Albert opened for them while he was promoting ‘(backwards question mark thingy)Como Te Llamas?’

But as I’ve said before, I really, really like Coldplay.  I’ve been listening to them a lot, especially live recordings of their most recent album, which sounds really good in concert.  These are some of the standout songs from the band’s set in Tokyo, which was filmed for MTV’s ‘World Stage’ high-definiton show.

First is Lovers in Japan. I love the chords in this chorus. It sounds perfect.

As I’ve said, this is a perfect song to wake up to. If you have an iPod dock with an alarm, set up this song to wake you up. Please?

As the crew sets up the instruments for Viva La Vida, Coldplay play right next to each other.

Aesthetics for this song are fantastic, with the lighting and big air-filled balls.
